Documentary and Street Photography Portfolio

Manuel Llaneras - Photographer

“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” – Robert Frank.

That quote has always resonated with me. It incapsulates in a few words what photography has meant to me from the start, even before I was aware of the quote.  Capturing moments is what I set out to do with the camera, but it is not just a mechanical process, it is a way for me to connect with the world around me, to individual people, to society… to humanity.

I like story-telling aspect of documentary photography, and I like the energy of the streets. Whether I’m working on a particular story or out in the streets, the photography I do, to use Frank’s words again, is about finding “the humanity of the moment”.

I’ve used film and digital, but I always worked in black and white because I like the simplicity of the medium. This portfolio is a representative sample of my work throughout the years.
